According to forecasts, the port of Rostock will continue to grow. This also means more traffic – and to keep it flowing, the port is now better connected to the A19 motorway.
Rostock (dpa/mv) – After eight months of construction, the Rostock overseas port has a second motorway exit and driveway. The new junction at the northern end of the A19 is called “Rostock-Industriehafen” and was opened to traffic on Friday. The connection is intended to make traffic flows in and out of the port more efficient. Rostock Port has invested more than five million euros in the new A19 connection.
“Both the grain handling companies and the large industrial companies Liebherr and EEW in the east of the port can now be reached via the new motorway exit over shorter distances, which at the same time avoids traffic jams to and from the ferry and RoRo terminal in the western port area,” said the Managing Director of Rostock Port, Gernot Tesch. The new exit is just before the central “Rostock-Überseehafen” junction.
The director of the north-east branch of the Autobahn GmbH, Ronald Normann, emphasized that the connection would relieve traffic considerably and strengthen the important economic location of the port of Rostock. In addition, the junction contributes significantly to road safety, as it could also prevent the conspicuous number of wrong-way journeys at the Warnow tunnel.
