Fürth (dpa / lby) – In Bavaria, the number of people in need of care in old people’s homes is decreasing. As the State Office for Statistics in Fürth reported on Friday, at the end of 2021 almost 110,000 people in the Free State were inpatients in a nursing home. Compared to 2019, this is a decrease of 4.5 percent.

In contrast, however, the number of men and women who were cared for by outpatient nursing services at home increased by 5.1 percent during the period. Around 123,400 affected people took advantage of the outpatient services at the end of 2021.

In general, however, the number of recipients of long-term care insurance benefits in Bavaria continues to rise sharply. At the end of 2021, there were more than 578,000 recipients, 17.5 percent more than in the comparative survey two years earlier.

Within 20 years, the number of people in need of care who receive money has almost doubled – in 2001 it was around 299,000 people. Four out of five beneficiaries are currently seniors aged at least 65, and 58 percent of beneficiaries are at least 80 years old.
