The longest pier in the Baltic Sea region will soon be in Prerow. Before the new building, the old one will be dismantled. The work is in full swing.

Prerow (dpa / mv) – In front of the Baltic Sea resort of Prerow, the remaining structural parts of the old pier are currently being removed. It had a service life of almost 30 years. The pipes are currently being pulled out of the ground, according to the State Office for Agriculture and the Environment. A working vessel is used for this purpose.

In front of the popular holiday resort (Vorpommern-Rügen district), a harbor for sports boats, fishermen and sea rescuers is to be built by 2023, which will then be accessible via a 720 meter long pier – the longest in the Baltic Sea region.

The state will bear the estimated costs of 42 million euros. According to the Ministry of the Environment, the money comes from the European Regional Development Fund. The client is the State Office for Agriculture and the Environment in Rostock.

The ARGE Inselhafen took over the detailed planning and the construction of all structural systems. This consists of four companies: the Ed. Züblin AG (lead management), Colcrete-von Essen Wasserbau, DDW Deutsch Dänische Wasserbau and Aug. Prien Bauunternehmung.

The new island port will replace the previous emergency port of Darßer Ort, which is the only landing stage between Rostock and Hiddensee in heavy seas, especially important for sailors. Part of the order is also the renaturation of the port of refuge, which is located in the core zone of the national park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft.
