Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The Green Youth does not consider the so-called letter affair about Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) to be over for a long time. “The matter is not over with the termination of the public prosecutor’s proceedings,” said the spokeswomen of the Green Youth in the southwest, Aya Krkoutli and Elly Reich on Wednesday. They also contradicted the Green Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann. “The so-called letter affair has severely weakened trust in the minister and unfortunately it doesn’t seem as if the minister is interested in clarifying the matter.”

On the other hand, Kretschmann had defended his minister on Wednesday in the state parliament. The opposition had submitted an application for dismissal against Strobl. However, the green-black majority rejected the request. Strobl had punctured a lawyer’s letter in the case to a journalist.

Krkoutli and Reich said: “It has long been clear that Interior Minister Strobl cannot be a role model for the police.” However, he is now responsible for “clarifying the various worrying reports from his department and tackling the problem structurally. That is the least we expect”.

The young Greens are alluding to Strobl’s role in the state parliament’s investigative committee in the so-called police affair. The background is investigations against the highest-ranking police officer in the country, the police inspector. He is accused of sexual harassment. The U-Committee therefore wants to shed light on the promotion practices of the police.
