Tangerhütte (dpa/sa) – The Weißewarte wildlife park, which is threatened with closure, should remain open until November 4th. This was announced by the Tangerhütte city administration on Tuesday. Originally, the facility in the Stendal district was to be opened to visitors for the last time this week and then closed if no new operator was found.
Potential investors have recently been able to submit bids for a takeover. According to the city administration, an award could finally be decided in the city council on December 14th. Some interested parties have already registered, it said.
The previous operating association was no longer able to guarantee legally compliant management last year. Due to significant deficiencies in animal welfare law, the supervisory authority of the responsible district intervened. After a temporary closure, the end of the year was threatened at the beginning of the year. After serious deficiencies had been remedied, the district issued a provisional zoo permit, which was then extended indefinitely in mid-September.
