Ribnitz-Damgarten (dpa/mv) – A large holiday resort is to be built on the site of the former military airport on the Pütnitz peninsula near Ribnitz-Damgarten. The area measures 250 hectares. It involves investments totaling around 350 million euros. The city representatives of the municipality, which has around 16,000 inhabitants, decide on Wednesday evening whether a development plan should be drawn up. Municipal committees have already given the green light. A development plan would probably not be legally binding until 2024 at the earliest. A citizens’ initiative urgently warns of mass tourism and environmental consequences, the mayor speaks of a great opportunity and the immense importance of the project for the city. The main investor is the amusement park operator Center Parcs. Opponents and supporters go to court harshly.
