Baden-Baden (dpa/lsw) – Environmental activists protested at the congress center in Baden-Baden on Monday morning. About 25 demonstrators sat on the ground at the entrance around 7 a.m. and put up posters on the building, a police spokesman said. In a statement, representatives of the groups “Extinction Rebellion” and “Debt4Climate” acknowledged the action. According to them, activists stuck themselves in front of the building and also spread an oil-like liquid on the floor. The police spokesman could not immediately confirm this.

Those responsible for the house and the assembly authority had been informed in order to decide on how to proceed, it said. The police operation was still going on in the morning.

An event by reinsurers has been taking place in the Kongresshaus since Sunday and will continue until Wednesday. With the protest, the activists are calling on the congress participants to stop insuring any further oil, coal and gas projects.
