Schönwald (dpa / lby) – A driver was seriously injured on the Autobahn 93 in Upper Franconia by a truck tire flying around. The wheel had come loose from the truck for reasons that were not yet clear, rolled over the guardrail and then crashed head-on into the windshield of a car, the police said on Friday. The tire then landed on the embankment. The 65-year-old driver suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital.
After the accident on Thursday near Schönwald (Wunsiedel district in the Fichtelgebirge), the police are now investigating the 27-year-old truck driver on suspicion of negligent bodily harm. According to the information, the car suffered damage of around 30,000 euros.
