Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The central square on the west side of Magdeburg’s main train station is getting a new look. After the ground-breaking ceremony for the start of the redesign of Kölner Platz on Friday, Deutsche Bahn wants to make the area and reception building more attractive for travelers and locals by summer 2024. According to the company, an “attractive interface between tram and train traffic” will be created.
Trees and seating to linger as well as bicycle parking spaces are planned. The travel center of Deutsche Bahn and gastronomic facilities are also part of the redesign. According to Deutsche Bahn, Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister for Infrastructure and Digital Affairs, Lydia Hüskens (FDP), and Magdeburg’s Mayor Simone Borris (pareilos) are also expected to start construction.
