The Tineco Toasty One isn’t just a stylish toaster, it’s a smart toaster. It should always be able to achieve exactly the desired tan, and also individually adjusted for both slots. ntv.de has tried out how well he can do it.

Most toasters are operated according to the principle of hope and experience. This means you set the browning level that has proven itself for a type of bread and hope that the result will meet your expectations. Nothing is left to chance with the Tineco Toasty, because it is a smart toaster that should always achieve the desired degree of browning – regardless of whether you change the type of bread or hungry users with different tastes are sitting at the table.

You can see immediately that the Toasty One is not a normal toaster. A four-inch touch display is emblazoned in a chrome frame on its front. The design, which is reminiscent of a futuristic welding helmet when the screen is off, is impressive, and the materials and workmanship are of high quality.

The relatively large color LCD and a visually appealing, largely self-explanatory menu make the smart toaster easy to use. After the start you have the choice between an intelligent mode and manual operation. In the settings you can change the language and have the option to control the toaster slots together or independently.

Since this is a smart toaster, people usually go for the smart option. Then you select a slice of bread via the touchscreen and set the desired degree of browning using a slider. If you have selected joint control, you can only operate the controller. Then you type in start, the toast slices move down, the retaining grids close and the wires of the Toasty One start to glow.

You can follow the progress on a percentage display. At first, both sides are moving in lockstep. But after a while, the information differs. That’s because sensors detect the browning and the toaster adjusts the heat accordingly. When one slice is done, the toaster waits until the other is at 100 percent, then both move up together and release them with a pleasant notification tone.

It’s elegant, but ultimately it’s the result that counts. And for that, the Toasty One gets full marks. If the same type of bread is in both slots, they will look almost identically browned when set to do so. Adjusted individually, the result is the same for each process, regardless of whether the toast was drier than the previous slice or a new pack was started. Wholemeal toast in one slot and butter toast in the other is also no problem.

The toast is crispy on the outside and stays soft and juicy on the inside. It is not clear whether this is due to the “GoldenCrispy technology”, as Tineco states. With a similar degree of browning, the old conventional toaster achieved the same result in the test – only it took several attempts until then.

Once you have found the perfect settings for a type of bread on the Toasty One, you do not have to remember the position of the slider. Instead, you tap the heart icon and save it as a favorite, which you can then easily recall. In total, it is possible to set eight different preferences, which benefits different tastes in families, among other things.

The manual mode is mainly for special cases. Here you can choose between four different browning levels as well as fresh or frozen goods. If a piece of toast has become cold, you can use the warm-up function.

Also practical: If you forget to switch off the toaster, it does so itself after ten minutes, after just 30 seconds of inactivity it locks the display. If the crumb drawer is full, you will be reminded to empty it with a message on the display.

The Toasty One keeps what it promises. Toasting has never been easier or more fun – especially when the kids are at the table. The device also appears to last longer than the two-year warranty. However, almost 340 euros is a very high price that probably only real toast enthusiasts are willing to pay. But one can hope that the Toasty One will soon be available at a much lower price, in fact Tineco is already selling it in its own shop with a ten percent discount.
