Taucha (dpa / sn) – Saxony’s Environment Minister Wolfram Günther sees the security of supply with electricity and gas in central Germany for the coming winter months as secured. “There is no doubt about the stability of the network and thus the security of supply – that is to be expected in the foreseeable future,” said Günther during a visit to the central control room of the electricity and gas supplier enviaM in Leipzig on Thursday. Energy must be properly distributed to avoid a lack of individual points.
However, if sufficient savings were not made in the coming months, there would be indications of a possible shortage of gas towards the end of winter, the minister said. On the other hand, the power supply is secured. Nevertheless, heating with electricity, for example with a fan heater, is not a sensible alternative, since the prices for electricity and gas depend on each other. The most important thing is therefore to save energy, according to Günther: “Everything that we save helps us to increase the security of supply. But nobody has to freeze.”
Above all, to mitigate the social consequences of rising energy prices, a price brake for electricity is important, demanded the environment minister. “We have to get to the root of the problem, for example redistribute random profits,” he said. The control room of the enviaM group near Leipzig supplies consumers from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Thuringia with electricity and gas.
