Schweinfurt/Munich (dpa/lby) – After the city of Schweinfurt announced that it wanted to withdraw from the 2026 state garden show, the search for another organizer is already underway. To this end, discussions are being held with other municipalities in coordination with the Ministry of the Environment, said the managing director of the Bavarian State Garden Show GmbH, Martin Richter-Liebald, on Thursday in Munich.
Schweinfurt’s Lord Mayor Sebastian Remelé (CSU) announced on Wednesday that the city wanted to forgo the 2026 State Garden Show in view of inflation, the energy crisis and falling tax revenues. City council is expected to vote on the proposal next week.
Richter-Liebald expects that Schweinfurt will use the contractually agreed right of termination. We are also in close contact with the other municipalities that will host state garden shows by 2032. So far, none of them have announced that they also want to back down. “It’s a very special situation in Schweinfurt,” said Richter-Liebald.
The city of Nuremberg, which will host the 50th State Garden Show in Bavaria in 2030, declared that it wanted to stick to the plans. “A cancellation is out of the question, since climate protection, climate adaptation and the need to bring more green into the city are non-negotiable key tasks,” said city spokesman Andreas Franke.
