Schwerin (dpa/mv) – Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s industry posted lower sales for three months in a row than in the same month last year. After June and July, the state’s statistical office now also reported a drop in sales for companies with at least 50 employees in August. In August 2022, according to information from Wednesday, they achieved 1.24 billion euros after 1.37 billion euros in August 2021. In the first eight months of this year, the companies generated sales of 9.9 billion euros after 10.1 billion euros in same period 2021.

The employers’ association VUMV had reported falling demand from industrial clients and cautious consumer behavior due to the sharp rise in energy prices. “For months, German industry’s investments in ecological and digital transformation have dropped by around 40 percent,” said Jens Matschenz from the association. In addition, according to his statements, delivery problems are increasingly occurring. Production restrictions and cessations also contribute to the falling sales.
