Rostock (dpa/mv) – Integration Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) recognized the Migrantenrat Rostock (Migro) as an important partner on the occasion of its 30th anniversary. “The perspective and expertise of what was then the only migrant representation in the country legitimized by elections, with its experience and contacts, was very valuable at all times – not just for the municipal level,” said Drese on Tuesday on the occasion of the founding anniversary.
According to the ministry, a special session followed by a ceremony took place on Tuesday. However, the Migrantenrat was founded on October 12, 1992.
From the point of view of the Minister for Integration, the body – which works to promote understanding between citizens and develops proposals and opinions on migration policy issues – continues to be important. Among other things, the state government is working intensively with migrant representatives on the current work on an integration and participation law.
