Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Saxony-Anhalt wants to build a deportation facility with up to 30 places in the immediate vicinity of the Volkstedt prison (Mansfeld-Südharz district). Persons who are obliged to leave the country, such as rejected asylum seekers, are to be accommodated there temporarily before being returned. On Tuesday, the cabinet approved a proposal for the Volkstedt location of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of the Interior. Saxony-Anhalt is currently dependent on cooperation with other countries to accommodate those who are obliged to leave the country. The state rejected original plans to create deportation places in a former prison in Dessau-Roßlau for cost reasons.
