Vipperow (dpa / mv) – After the fire in a residential building with two holiday apartments in Vipperow (Mecklenburg Lake District), a 24-year-old man has to answer for arson. As a police spokesman said on Monday, the occupant of the holiday apartment on the top floor of the house is said to have caused the fire negligently, as the investigations have shown so far. The fire on Sunday burned out the entire house and caused damage of around 500,000 euros.

According to previous investigations, the 24-year-old had heated oil in a frying pan in his kitchen. This oil caught fire. The flames quickly spread through the kitchen of the attic apartment. The guest ran away to get help. When firefighters arrived, police said the entire roof of the house was on fire. Nobody got hurt. The landlords – a retired couple who were not in the house at the time of the fire – receive pastoral care.
