The Brazilian Justice sentenced in absentia a third person involved for placing a bomb near the Brasilia airport last December, with the intention of preventing the inauguration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and keeping Jair Bolsonaro in power, sources reported this Friday. officers.
The 8th Criminal Court of Brasilia imposed on Wellington Macedo de Souza, who has been a fugitive since January 5, a sentence of six years in prison in a closed regime, according to the Court of Justice of the Brazilian capital.
The judge found him guilty of “endangering the life, physical integrity or property” of third parties by participating in an attempted attack by placing “a bomb” in a “fuel truck” near the Brasilia airport.
The device did not explode due to a mistake in its assembly and was deactivated by the Police on the morning of December 24, with just over a week to go before Lula’s inauguration, which took place on January 1.
Last May, the Justice sentenced the other two involved in the event to between five and nine years in prison: George Washington de Oliveira and Alan Diego dos Santos, also followers of the former president and far-right leader Bolsonaro.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the three met in the camp that supporters of the ex-president set up in front of the Army Headquarters, in Brasilia, after Lula’s victory in the October elections.
From there they demanded a “military intervention” to overthrow the progressive leader and keep Bolsonaro in power.
“The objective of the defendants, according to the Public Ministry, was to commit criminal offenses that could cause social commotion so that there would be a military intervention and the State of Siege would be decreed,” the court said.
The investigation indicated that Washington de Oliveira transported from his hometown, in the state of Pará (north), to Brasilia “firearms” and “ammunition” to distribute them among the camped Bolsonaristas in order to cause “social disturbances” and, according to he declared, “to prevent the spread of communism.”
On that trip he also brought explosives and on December 23 the three convicted and “other unidentified protesters” drew up a plan to “detonate them in public places.”
Washington de Oliveira set up the bomb with Internet videos and delivered it to Diego dos Santos, who in turn gave it to Macedo de Souza to complete the “criminal action.”
Thus, Macedo de Souza and “another unidentified individual” went to the airport and placed the explosive “on the rear axle of a tanker truck” with a capacity of 60,000 liters of fuel and which at that time was loaded with kerosene.
The driver, however, perceived the presence of the device and immediately called the Police.
After this attempted attack, many of the Bolsonaristas who were in the camp in front of the Army Headquarters participated in the violent invasion of the offices of the Presidency, Congress and the Supreme Court on January 8, with which they also sought to overthrow Lula.
