Erfurt (dpa/th) – A case of bovine tuberculosis has been found in the Wartburg district of Thuringia. When examining a cow in the slaughterhouse, signs of the disease were found and these were then proven by laboratory diagnostics, as the Ministry of Health announced on Friday in Erfurt. Now, among other things, the entire animal population of the keeper from whose farm the cattle came is being examined.

Bovine tuberculosis is one of the so-called zoonoses. This refers to diseases that can also be transmitted to humans and pets. Bovine tuberculosis can cause tuberculosis in humans. According to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), transmission to humans, for example through the consumption of milk or meat, is possible if the products are consumed raw.
