Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The Diakonie Württemberg calls for action against the intensification of poverty. “In view of new poverty groups, we appeal again to politicians to work against the causes of poverty,” said a statement on Friday before the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (October 17). Poverty now also affects middle-income people. “You are now experiencing what all people affected by poverty suffer: resignation, shame, helplessness and fear of the future.”
The chairwoman of the board of directors of the Diakonisches Werk Württemberg, Annette Noller, believes that in addition to electricity and gas price caps, relief for tenants is necessary. There is an increasing number of people whose pension is insufficient or who receive housing benefit. The sharp increase in people who are dependent on food banks is frightening.
