Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The significant increase in new corona infections in the southwest is noticeable in the clinics and medical practices. Due to the high level of sick leave among the staff, planned operations would have to be postponed again, said the general manager of the Baden-Württemberg Hospital Society (BWKG), Matthias Einwag, on Thursday of the German Press Agency. The number of patients on waiting lists for planned surgery is increasing. And he expects that trend to increase, Einwag said.

Einwag attributes the above-average sickness rate among staff to corona infections on the one hand, but also to other respiratory diseases. At the same time, the number of Covid patients in the clinics is currently increasing, said Einwag. These could all be well taken care of at the moment. However, increased protective measures are necessary to isolate these people. In connection with the high level of sick leave among the staff, this means that the care of other patients has to be restricted.

The general practitioners in Baden-Württemberg are also currently registering a higher number of patients due to the increasing number of new corona infections, as a spokeswoman for the General Practitioners Association announced on request. The number of patients increased every day. At the same time, sick leave among practice staff is increasing, according to the spokeswoman.

The number of corona infections in the country has recently increased significantly. While the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants was 400 within seven days a week ago, the value is now around twice as high. Because not every infected person does a PCR test, experts also assume that the number of unreported cases is high.
