Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Around 11,200 people took to the streets in Saxony-Anhalt on Monday against the high prices, the Ukraine war and the energy policy of the federal government. A spokeswoman for the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday that there were a total of 44 meetings across the country. It was primarily about “measures to combat the corona pandemic, the current Russia-Ukraine conflict and the current inflation,” said the spokeswoman. Last week, 14,600 people demonstrated in Saxony-Anhalt on German Unity Day.
Most of the participants were around 1350 in Aschersleben (Salzlandkreis), as the spokeswoman said. According to the ministry, the demos remained largely trouble-free. Police launched three investigations nationwide into charges of using signs belonging to unconstitutional and terrorist organizations, insults and public incitement to commit crimes.
According to the police, the registrations for the demonstrations came from the left spectrum as well as from those alliances that had already taken to the streets against the Corona policy in winter.
