On Wednesday morning, Russia claimed to have shot down three Ukrainian drones in the Kaluga region, located southwest of Moscow. At around 5 a.m. local time (4 a.m. Paris), an attempted attack on Kyiv by means of “three unmanned aerial vehicles […] in the Kaluga region was foiled”, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Telegram .

“All drones were detected and destroyed in time by Russian air defense systems,” the ministry said, adding that the attack caused no casualties or damage. The devices were neutralized “in the south of the region” of Kaluga, local governor Vladislav Chapcha said on Telegram.

Attack drone incursions into Russian-controlled territories have increased in recent weeks, particularly to target the capital. This is at least the fifth time Russia says it has shot down drones in the Kaluga region, following similar attacks on August 3 and 7, as well as Thursday and Saturday.

Seven Ukrainian drones were neutralized on August 3 without causing any casualties or damage, according to Russian Defense and the regional governor. At the end of July and the beginning of August, other devices had been destroyed above the business district of Moscow, in the west of the Russian capital, causing slight damage to the facade of two towers. In May, two drones were shot down over the Kremlin.
