Two policewomen leave their colleagues in the hail of bullets. The appeal judgment at the district court in Hagen gives the officers at least the chance to continue working as police officers.
Hagen (dpa / lnw) – More than two years after a shooting at a traffic control in Gevelsberg, two police officers can hope for a professional future again. The district court in Hagen sentenced the officers on Wednesday to four months’ imprisonment on probation. In May 2020, the accused drove past two colleagues in their patrol car who were checking a driver. When the driver suddenly fired at the police officers, the suspects did not intervene and instead fled the scene, leaving their colleagues in the hail of bullets. In the first instance, the district court in Schwelm had imposed a year’s probation on each of them. As a result, the officers would have lost their jobs. After the appeal judgment, the legal consequences of a disciplinary procedure remain reserved.
