The famous Italian lyric soprano Renata Scotto is no more. She died at the age of 89, the mayor of the city of Savona, where the singer was born, announced on Wednesday August 16 in a Facebook post. According to the Ansa agency, the singer died at her home in New York, United States.

Born on February 24, 1934 in Savona, in northwestern Italy, she studied singing in Milan and began her career in 1952 in her hometown, in La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi.
During her long career, she has sung in the greatest opera houses around the world, from the Metropolitan Opera in New York to the Royal Opera House in London and La Scala in Milan.
