Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – In the past 24 months, the internal police unit “BAO Focus” has searched 2947 apartments and other rooms throughout Hessen in the fight against sexual abuse of children and young people. In addition, 41 arrest warrants were executed and 46,304 data carriers secured, as the Interior Ministry announced in Wiesbaden on Friday.
“Anyone who sexually abuses children must be fought uncompromisingly with all the power of the state,” said Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU). In order to support the work of “BAO Focus”, the state government is investing four million euros in a forensic platform, the ministry explained. This would allow data to be evaluated much faster and in a more targeted manner in order to find perpetrators more quickly and protect children from abuse.
The “BAO Focus” (special organizational structure for cross-case organizational structure against child pornography and sexual abuse of children) started its work in October 2020. More than 300 investigators work in the unit across Hesse.
