Erfurt (dpa/th) – According to the State Statistical Office, a quarter of the population in Thuringia is older than 65 years. Last year, around 545,000 people of the 65+ generation lived in Bavaria, as the state office announced on the Friday before World Older People’s Day on October 1st. That was around 26 percent of the total population. According to the authority, the number of older people has risen by around 15 percent within ten years. At just under 56 percent, the proportion of women in this age group is higher than in the general population (50.4 percent). According to statistics, almost a third (32.7 percent) of those over 65 lived alone. 5.6 percent of people over 65 were still employed.
