Schwerin (dpa/mv) – The FDP parliamentary group in Schwerin considers it difficult to finance an energy price cap by skimming off profits from companies. Skimming off profits due to high gas prices, for which neither investment nor entrepreneurial risk was borne, can still be justified, said FDP parliamentary group leader René Domke on Thursday in Schwerin. In addition, the FDP sees additional taxation as hardly legally tenable or enforceable. Domke rejected taxes on “any sworn excess profits,” they also affect consumer prices.

In principle, however, Domke welcomed the unanimous decision of the state leaders to demand an energy price cap from the federal government. This would address the concerns of many people and companies. The question now is whether the debt brake will be lifted due to an exceptional emergency.
