Kamenz (dpa/sn) – After the tank discount and 9-euro ticket expired, inflation in Saxony rose above the 9 percent mark. While inflation was still 7.3 percent in August, it is now 9.2 percent in September, as the State Statistical Office announced on Thursday based on preliminary figures. Energy alone rose in price by more than a third compared to the same month last year (34.1 percent).
Consumers also had to pay significantly more for food, plus 19.3 percent. “This is a development that has not been identified since the beginning of the calculation of the consumer price index in Saxony,” the statisticians reported.
There were also price increases in many other areas, such as clothing and shoes, visits to the opera and theater and adult education courses.
In addition, the end of the tank discount and 9-euro ticket had a major impact. Compared to August, fuel prices have increased by 12.3 percent. On average, 12.5 percent more had to be paid for journeys by train than in the previous month.
