Gera (dpa/th) – After brutal attacks on football fans in Thuringia, another member of the “Jungsturm” fan group has to answer in court. The trial against the 23-year-old begins on Wednesday (1.30 p.m.) in the Gera district court. The accused is said to have attacked Jena fans at the Saalfeld train station in December 2018 together with other violent football fans from the Erfurt fan spectrum. The public prosecutor accuses the 19-year-old of dangerous bodily harm and joint robbery at the time of the crime. Another trial against several of the group’s accused is scheduled to begin in mid-October. The “Jungsturm” is a fan group from the environment of FC Rot-Weiss Erfurt. According to previous assessments by the police and public prosecutor’s office, violent and right-wing football fans are gathering there.

Several people from the group have already been convicted at the Gera district court. The regional court had considered it proven that they had met in changing occupations to fight with other hooligan groups and attacked FC Carl Zeiss Jena fans, for example at the Saalfeld and Gotha train stations in 2018 and 2019. Jena fans are considered to be more left-wing set.
