Schwerin/Parchim (dpa/mv) – The impending closure of the children’s ward at the Asklepios Hospital in Parchim increases dissatisfaction with the medical services for small patients in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The social committee of the state parliament is therefore holding a special meeting today. This was requested by the CDU in opposition.

A ban on the treatment of premature babies with a birth weight of less than 1250 grams from 2023 at the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Clinic in Neubrandenburg had already caused criticism last week. Two years ago, obstetrics at the Crivitz hospital (Ludwigslust-Parchim district) closed despite protests from the population.

Health Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) canceled her participation in the state cabinet’s two-day trip to Brussels on Monday and Tuesday to answer questions in the committee.

She regrets the decision of the Asklepios management, which was announced at short notice, she explained to the closure of the children’s ward in Parchim at the end of September. Your ministry will examine the figures and statements used by the group. Asklepios justified the closure with too few cases. She announced talks with Asklepios and the Ludwigslust-Parchim district on future medical care for children in the region.
