Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – More than 2000 visitors experienced concerts, readings, exhibitions and much more at the Magdeburg Culture Night. A total of 38 cultural venues in the state capital opened their doors on Saturday evening, as the organizers announced on Sunday. The organizers drew a positive conclusion. As part of the event, cultural workers drew attention to their precarious situation with a “cultural intervention”. At 8:25 p.m. the lights went out at all cultural venues.

According to an appeal, the actors in the art, culture and event industry have been in a state of emergency for two and a half years. In the coming months, this situation will worsen dramatically when the third winter of the corona crisis hits the energy crisis. According to the organizers, the time of the campaign was chosen with a view to Germany’s next hosting of the European Capital of Culture in 2025. The Saxon city of Chemnitz was awarded the contract. The city will share the title with Nova Gorica in Slovenia.
