Arnsdorf/Görlitz (dpa/sn) – Almost a year after an infant’s skeleton was found in a forest near Fischbach (Bautzen district), the fate of the baby is still largely unclear. With a witness call for evidence, the investigators are now hoping for clues to clarify the case, as announced by the public prosecutor and the police in Görlitz on Thursday. It contains individual items from the site including photos that witnesses, neighbors or those around the parents might have noticed, as a police spokeswoman said.
These include a blue plastic bucket with a red handle and a “distinctive notch”, a black garbage bag, plastic clips, textile remnants, possibly from a washcloth or towel, and labels.
Walkers made the gruesome find on the evening of September 26, 2021 in the forest near federal highway 6. The bucket was in the garbage bag, and it contained skeletal parts and textile remnants, the police spokeswoman said. According to current knowledge, the child was already dead when it was brought to the Karlswald. “Time of dropping does not match time of death.” The sack was not particularly hidden, lying on a paved road not far from a fork in the road. “Apparently it had to be quick.”
How long he was there, whether weeks or months, could not be precisely defined. The identity of the child – age, gender – is deliberately not given. The criminal police are investigating on suspicion of a homicide. After the find, the forest was also combed with a sniffer dog and drone. In addition, numerous traces were secured and about 250 people from the nearby allotment garden were questioned. But a dozen or so clues have so far not helped to clear up the case. Its broadcast on the MDR program Kripo live this Sunday (September 18) should also help.
