Endingen (dpa / lsw) – In the station of Endingen am Kaiserstuhl (Emmendingen district), a woman was hit by a train and fatally injured. According to witnesses, the 61-year-old wanted to change the platform and ran onto a pedestrian crossing, the police said on Thursday. The train driver initiated an emergency brake, but still caught the woman. She died on Wednesday from her injuries at the scene of the accident.
There was no barrier in front of the crossing, but an optical and an acoustic signal that warned of the approach of the train. According to initial investigations, the woman was distracted and did not notice the signals. School children, among others, saw the accident on the train. They were cared for by aftercare teams.
