Dresden (dpa / sn) – Saxony’s Greens reject the widespread use of the forest for wind turbines. Nature protection remains the goal, especially in times of climate change, there will be no blanket opening of the forest for wind turbines with the Alliance Greens, the party announced on Monday. The state party council decided on these and five other demands at the weekend.

This keeps the Greens at a distance from the regional development ministry. Its department head Thomas Schmidt (CDU) had only emphasized last week that there was great potential in the forest. Between eight and twelve percent of the forest area could be suitable for wind turbines.

Saxony must provide two percent of the state area for wind power by 2032. The state was legally obliged to do this by the federal government. However, how this two percent target is to be achieved is controversial in the black-green-red government coalition.
