Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – The Löwen Frankfurt signed Canadian striker Carter Rowney before the start of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) season. As the DEL promoted announced on Monday, the 33-year-old comes from the Detroit Red Wings of the North American National Hockey League. He won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2016-17 season. The veteran played a total of 272 NHL games. The Löwen Frankfurt start in the DEL this Friday with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg.
“We are very pleased that we were able to convince a top-class player like Carter Rowney of our vision here at the club,” said sporting director Franz-David Fritzmeier. “Carter will bring us a lot of added stability and quality to all areas of our game, as well as providing vital support to our team on the ice.” Carter will also bring “a lot of experience to our team – on and off the ice”.
