Greifswald (dpa/mv) – According to experts, circulatory disorders in the legs were often not treated during the corona pandemic. Specialists are now confronted with diseases that are already well advanced and difficult to treat, said the University Medicine Greifswald on Thursday.
Older people in particular are affected by the disorder, also known as shop window disease. Those affected can walk a certain distance before pain sets in because the muscles are not supplied with sufficient oxygen. A short stop in front of a shop window, for example, helped the muscles recover. The cause is hardening of the arteries.
People with these symptoms should definitely see a doctor. Without treatment, there is even a risk of limb loss. Timely diagnosis and treatment is important. In mid-September, experts want to discuss at the conference of the North German Society for Vascular Medicine in Greifswald how they could help with the often delayed complaints.
