Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – One week after the start of the school year, the number of Ukrainian students has increased again. As of last Thursday, 5182 boys and girls from Ukraine are being taught at general and vocational schools, as the Ministry of Education in Magdeburg announced on Monday when asked. On the first day of school, August 25, around 4,700 Ukrainian students attended general schools and almost 230 students attended vocational schools.
According to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, as of last Thursday around 27,700 war refugees from Ukraine have been taken in directly in the rural districts and urban districts. Among them are at least 2780 children in kindergarten and 6850 children of school age.
The Ministry of Education also announced that there are now 168 Ukrainian teachers working in Saxony-Anhalt. In addition, there are 53 teachers for German as a target language who are supposed to teach the children and young people the German language. In addition, five Russian teachers have been won back from retirement.
