Erfurt (dpa/th) – Seniors form the main group in Thuringia among the recipients of housing benefit. According to the State Office for Statistics on Thursday, 63.8 percent of the main income earners in so-called pure housing benefit households, in which all household members were entitled to housing benefit, were pensioners. At the end of last year, the proportion of employed main income earners in pure housing benefit households was 24.4 percent, and that of the unemployed 3.2 percent.

A total of 19,060 Thuringian households received housing benefit as of December 31. According to the information, that was 1,285 fewer households than at the same time last year. Around two thirds of the housing benefit households were single-person households. According to this information, the average monthly housing benefit entitlement was 144 euros.
