Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The electric scooters set up illegally overnight in Magdeburg should disappear from the streets as soon as possible. The city administration came to this decision on Monday. Two private providers will receive a hearing letter in the next few days, as the state capital announced. “If the providers do not remove their scooters from the street independently during the hearing, they will receive a so-called removal order from the state capital.” A special use permit for the approximately 150 e-scooters set up in Magdeburg should not be granted.
Magdeburg had already rejected an e-scooter provider at the end of 2020. The city cited the “predominantly negative experiences of other municipalities with the e-scooter sharing providers” as the reason.
The state capital is not fundamentally against the rental. Rather, the aim is to develop an e-scooter concept. This as well as a concession award should be decided by the city council.
