Magdeburg/Stolberg (dpa/sa) – Guido Heuer is the new leader of the CDU parliamentary group in Saxony-Anhalt. The 55-year-old member of the state parliament from the Börde district prevailed in a new election on Monday against the previous incumbent Siegfried Borgwardt. Heuer received 23 votes, Borgwardt accounted for 14. There were two abstentions, as a spokesman for the parliamentary group told the German Press Agency.

Heuer has been the financial policy spokesman and has recently criticized the country’s high spending on several occasions. The new election to the parliamentary group committee was scheduled for the closed conference of the CDU parliamentary group in the Harz Mountains. Borgwardt took over the office of parliamentary group leader in 2016, before that he was parliamentary manager. Criticism of Borgwardt’s administration was recently raised in the CDU parliamentary group.
