Halle/Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Excited and full of anticipation, with school bags and satchels, the future first graders will go to school on Saturday in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the Ministry of Education, there are a total of around 19,500 boys and girls who – accompanied by their families – are ceremonially admitted to the schools. Classes start on Monday. Education Minister Eva Feußner (CDU) visits an enrollment at a primary school in Halle. State Secretary Frank Diesener is present at a primary school in Aschersleben. A total of around 209,000 pupils study at the schools in Saxony-Anhalt.

The ADAC advises special consideration given the start of school. Children are endangered because of their small size, they are often overlooked by drivers. In addition, the students are often not yet able to correctly assess dangers and are easily distracted. The ADAC advises that parents should repeatedly practice going to school with their children and accompany them beyond the first day of school. The right clothing is also important. Jackets and satchels should have reflective areas.
