Neubrandenburg/Anklam (dpa/mv) – The police in Neubrandenburg warn of fraudsters who use a photographed police officer’s ID card to legitimize online purchases. A woman from the Löcknitz region (West Pomerania-Greifswald) had already been taken in by fraudsters through this scam and then pointed this out to the authorities, a police spokeswoman said on Friday. The woman wanted to buy a device cheaply via the Internet and transferred a three-digit sum via a payment provider, but received nothing. It is not yet clear whether there are other victims.

The scam of the perpetrators is designed in such a way that they offer goods at extremely low prices on sales platforms and demand quick payment without actually having anything, said the spokeswoman. In this context, the police officer must also reckon with official consequences. At the beginning of the year, the man photographed his service ID for a private project on the Internet and thus used it illegally for his legitimacy. The official was also tricked.
