Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – As part of a two-day warning strike, employees of the Frankfurt University Hospital demonstrated again on Friday for better working conditions. According to the Verdi union, more than 800 non-medical employees took to the streets on both days.

The hospital said there had been “significant restrictions on medical care.” Some stations had to be closed and the number of beds reduced. According to the university hospital, postponable operations have largely been cancelled. The two negotiating partners had agreed in advance on an emergency service agreement.

Verdi called on 4,000 non-medical employees at the clinic, including nurses, to go on a warning strike after the hospital and union were unable to agree in a second round of negotiations. Among other things, Verdi calls for a limit on how many patients a nurse on the ward has to take care of per shift. It is also about better training conditions and compensation for work in overwork situations. The third round of negotiations will take place on Monday.

The Frankfurt University Hospital is one of only two university hospitals in Hesse. The Gießen-Marburg University Hospital was privatized and belongs to Rhön-Klinikum AG.
