Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The war refugees from Ukraine have increased the number of people moving to Saxony-Anhalt. From January to May, around 20,000 Ukrainian refugees were recorded, as the State Statistical Office announced on Friday. People from the Ukraine make up the majority of the 32,764 people who moved to Saxony-Anhalt from abroad during this period.
According to the statistics office, more people from abroad moved to Saxony-Anhalt in the months from January to May 2022 than in the whole of 2016 as a result of the wave of refugees from Syria. According to the State Statistical Office, the figures are based on the provisional results of the migration statistics. The basis for this are registrations and deregistrations in the municipal registration offices.
