Météo-France announced on Friday August 4 that the risk of forest fires would be “very high” on Sunday August 6 in the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône and Var. This level of risk is the highest on the scale established by the institute based on weather forecasts and the state of drought of the vegetation.

The Bouches-du-Rhône were already at a “very high” risk of fires for the days of Friday August 4 and Saturday August 5.

Eight forest areas are particularly concerned:

Sunday, August 6, due to the very high risk of forest fires, access to the massifs will be prohibited for the day. Work will also be prohibited and the conditions of access to the islands of Port-Cros and Porquerolles will be restricted. As for the Canjuers plateau, it is already placed in orange vigilance, which means that its access is not prohibited, but strongly discouraged by the Var prefecture. Two motorway rest areas, located near the Massif des Maures on the A57, will be closed. These are the areas of Suvé-du-Vent in Puget-Ville and Lauvets in Carnoules.

In recent days, several fires have broken out in the south-east of France, in particular in L’Estaque, in the Bouches-du-Rhône. Fortunately, it was “totally brought under control”, according to BFM Marseille Provence, after ravaging an area of ??600 square meters. During the intervention, up to 40 firefighters were mobilized, in addition to two water bomber helicopters and six tank trucks.
