Münster (dpa / lnw) – The highest court in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Constitutional Court in Münster, has moved. A spokeswoman confirmed this on Thursday in Münster. The new seat is only a stone’s throw away from the Higher Administrative Court, in whose premises the Court of Justice was previously based. The newly rented rooms used to be offices and a bed shop.

The Constitutional Court still does not have its own courtroom: for hearings, as in the past, it has to use a room of the Higher Administrative Court. The new domicile is intended as an interim solution: a new building is to be built for the court of justice in Münster next to the higher administrative court.

The state parliament had decided that the constitutional court and the higher administrative court (OVG) of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia would be separated in terms of location and management. Until now, the President of the Higher Administrative Court was also President of the Constitutional Court.

This has changed since June 1, 2021: Law professor Barbara Dauner-Lieb is President of the Constitutional Court, while the Higher Administrative Court is headed by Sebastian Beimesche on a deputy basis.
