“Six drones were shot down by Russian anti-aircraft defense systems” on Thursday, August 3, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement, amid an increase in such attacks targeting the Russian capital. Russian forces “prevented overnight an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack with drones over the Kaluga region”, about 180 km from Moscow, the statement said. The incident resulted in “no casualties or damage”.
For his part, the regional governor, Vyacheslav Chapcha, announced later in the day that a seventh drone had been detected and shot down in this region, stressing on Telegram that it “did not affect either people or infrastructure”.
This announcement comes as Ukrainian drone attacks have increased in recent weeks on Russian territory, often targeting Moscow and the annexed Crimean peninsula.
Thus, Russia claimed on Tuesday to have neutralized an attack by Ukrainian drones in Moscow, admitting however that one of the machines had struck a building in the capital, already hit last weekend in a similar attack.
