The France Médias Monde group denounced, Thursday, August 3, the interruption of the broadcasting of RFI and France 24 programs in Niger, “a decision taken outside any conventional and legal framework” a week after the coup, according to a statement.

The two media had been inaccessible since Thursday afternoon, noted journalists from Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Niamey. The signals of the RFI FM station and the France 24 channel were cut “on instructions from the new military authorities”, a senior Nigerien official told AFP.

The Quai d’Orsay “very strongly condemns” these interruptions, according to Reuters. “France reaffirms its constant and determined commitment to freedom of the press, freedom of expression and the protection of journalists and all those whose expression contributes to free and plural information and to public debate, all over the world,” said French diplomacy.
