Munich (dpa / lby) – An elderly couple did not want to leave their burning apartment in Munich despite requests from a neighbor. The neighbor had heard the smoke alarm and tried in vain to persuade the couple to flee, as the fire department announced on Saturday. The fire brigade forces finally broke the apartment door to the heavily smoky apartment in a high-rise building and found the 83-year-old “apparently confused” sitting at the dining table. The couple suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to the hospital. The cause of the fire and other details were not immediately known.
