The officials were informed on Friday afternoon about an unusually high number of dead fish in the Rummelbeck watercourse, the state water protection police office in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania announced in the evening. The Rummelbeck is a tributary of the Wallensteingraben, which connects Lake Schwerin with the Baltic Sea.
According to the information, the emergency services found a large number of dead fish of various types and sizes. Water samples were taken to determine the cause of the fish kill. In addition, fish were seized as evidence. It is determined because of the suspicion of water pollution. The responsible environmental service of the Northwest Mecklenburg district was also on site, it said. Further details were not initially known.
